Teak candleholder Full Description
5.9 " W x 11.4 " H x 5.5 " D Weight: 1.97 kg -Teak wood -Candle(s) not included Ships from NOVICA Office in Thailand NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, searches the world to work directly with the finest artisan designers. Inspired by the magical aura of legendary tales, Phiparat Phirom creates this unique candleholder in the shape of a hill tribe princess. She is dressed according to tradition, which requires a devilish image for a crown. Phirom carves the candleholder from teakwood; her care for detail is exquisite, resulting in a vivid and expressive piece. Candle not included. Handmade by Phiparat Phirom "I'm Phiparat Phirom, but you can call me 'Kai.' I was born in Sukhothai, the ancient Thai capital on March 18, 1965. When I was a teenager, I moved to northern Thailand to go to school. I preferred art and wished I could major in it, but adults told me a woman can't do well in art. Of course, I obeyed like a good Thai girl must do, but I did so with unhappiness. After graduation, I worked in finances for a while, but quit to dedicate myself to the arts. "My brother taught me how to carve, and I also learned by myself. We built up a family shop and didn't employ anyone. My parents and my relatives also worked there. That's good, because we could talk and help in everything. In Sukhothai, family ties are strong. The ancient traditions still have a powerful influence on people and, even though we no longer live there, we still visit the temple on holidays. "One year our shop caught fire and we lost everything. We had to move and relocate on the outskirts of the city. After a while, I married and had a son and daughter. We are happy in this way, and we always help and support each other."
